The player has successfully passed a medical and finalised personal terms on Sunday and will be eligible to feature for Al Ahly against Smouha next Tuesday.

A number of European and Gulf clubs were all interested in signing him, but the player’s strong desire to join Al Ahly played a huge role in the Reds’ finalising the deal.

He will join Ramadan Sobhi, Mohamed Mahmoud, Geraldo, and Mahmoud Wahid as the club’s most recent signing as Al Ahly want to return to their known form.

El-Shahat, who joined Al Ain on loan last January from Misr El-Makassa before the club made the move permanent a few months later, hinted before about a potential move to the Cairo giants and previously announced his desire to play for the club.

The 26-year-old was influential for Al Ain during his time at the club, scoring 15 goals while providing 17 assists in 33 games across all competitions.

He was also vital in the team’s Club World Cup campaign as they reached the final match, before losing the title to European giants Real Madrid.

On the international level, El-Shahat has represented Egypt three times before, making his debut in a friendly against Greece last March.
