Uganda boss Desabre delighted at Egypt winning AFCON hosting rights
It has been announced that Egypt will host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced it’s bid has prevailed over South Africa’s one.
The news came as a pleasant surprise to Uganda boss Sebastien Desabre, who managed Egyptian side Ismaily during the first-half of last season.
The French manager is considered as a cult hero among Ismaily fans after he helped the team finish second in last year’s Egyptian Premier League campaign, losing just one game, before departing to take over as the Cranes manager
“It is good news because I like Egypt. The fans in Egypt are fantastic,” Desabre said.
“For the Uganda Cranes fans, it is near in terms of travel. I am happy but I hope the draw puts us in Ismailia,” he added.
Uganda’s key man Faruku Miya was also pleased with Egypt winning the hosting rights, saying: “It is a great honour to participate in the AFCON for the second time in a row and another opportunity to represent our country in Egypt at a higher level on the continent.
“We shall put on the Uganda Cranes jersey with a lot of pride like we have always done. Egypt is a good Country,” he concluded.
