Egypt’s Mohamed Salah wins Outstanding Arab Athlete award
Egypt’s Mohamed Salah has won the Outstanding Arab Athlete award, only hours after being named the CAF Player of the Year for 2018.
The Liverpool forward arrived in Dubai on Wednesday morning to attended the ceremony of Mohammed Bin Rashid Creative Sports Awards.
Salah claimed the Outstanding Arab Athlete award, which was presented by Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed.
The footballer was not the only Egyptian to win an award at the ceremony as weightlifter Mohamed Ihab, who won the Bronze medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, scooped the “Arab Athlete” award.
Ihab managed to win three gold medals at the World Weightlifting Championship, becoming the first Arab to achieve this feat.
Egypt’s Squash national team won the “Arab Team” award after lifting the 2017 World Championship in France. Ali Farag, Marwan El-Shorbagy, Ramy Ashour, and Karim Abdel-Gawad were the ones to represent Egypt at the tournament.
Egyptian boxing coach Nadia Abdelhafeez scooped the “Arab Coach” award after she guided the Pharaohs to win 45 medals in several Arab and international competitions.
Last but not least, Ahmed Osama Elgendy won “The Arab Athlete Who Achieved Outstanding Success in Sports” award for his performance in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, which saw him claim the gold medal at the modern pentathlon.
