Ismaily lose first challenge in CAF Champions League


Egyptian side Ismaily SC lost to Congolese giants 2-0 in their first group stage game in the .

Ismaily were drawn in Group C alongside TP Mazembe, Algeria’s CS Constantine and Tunisian giants Club Africain.

The Yellow Castle made six transfers in winter and included three of them in the squad to face TP Mazembe. These players are Benson Shilongo, Odah Marshal and Mahmoud Dunga.

In the 44th minute Ismaily were awarded a penalty and Mazembe goalkeeper Sylvain Gbohouo got sent off. However Egyptian defender Baher El Mohamady missed it.

Then in the 83rd minute Chico Wa Kubanza who had just came on a minute before opened the scoring for the hosts.

Three minutes later Congolese defender Kevin Mondeko Zatu doubled the scoring.

Following this result Ismaily currently sit bottom in their group with no points. They will face third-placed Club Africain in their next game on January 18.

Ismaily are also struggling in the Egyptian Premier League as they sit 16th with 17 points.
