Rehab Gomaa: I decided to accept naturalization offers
Egypt international handball player Rehab Gomaa has announced that she decided to get naturalized to play for another country.
Gomaa currently plays in the French second division for Sambre Avesnois and has previously featured for Cairo giants Al Ahly, as well as having stints in Algeria and Denmark.
The 25-year-old had already retired internationally after she was expelled from Cairo University due to missing her finals, but came back on her decision.
However, this time Gomaa has brazenly attacked Egypt’s sports ministry and the handball federation for ignoring the sport and has decided to represent another country.
“After we were ignored by the ministry of sports and the Egyptian women’s handball federation, I decided to accept naturalization offers,” Gomaa posted on Facebook.
“I wanted to represent Egypt, but the disregard of the federation’s board forced me to play for another country.
“Every player dreams of representing their country, but Egypt’s disregard towards this game is the reason I decided to get naturalized.
“Finally, I hope that the Egyptian society’s views towards women change because the Egyptian woman can achieve anything exactly like men,” she added.
She then confirmed on Facebook that no one from the Egyptian Sports Ministry contacted her following her previous statement.
