Al Ahly have started their CAF Champions League group-stages campaign with a 2-0 home victory over of DR Congo.

The Red Devils hosted the 2018 Confederations Cup runners-up at Borg El-Arab, aiming to start the group-stages with a win.

Al Ahly had a number of chances in the first-half through Ramadan Sobhi, Ali Maaloul, and Walid Soliman, but AS Vita’s goalkeeper was in a superb form, stopping the Reds from scoring.

The visitors were also forced to play over 60 minutes with 10 men after their defender Dharles Kalonji was sent-off for receiving two yellow cards.

AS Vita Club had only one chance in the first-half when their forward tried one from distance, Mohamed El-Shennawy reacted well.

The young midfielder had an instant impact, converting Mohamed Hany’s low cross to put Al Ahly into the lead after 65 minutes.

Five minutes later, AS Vita Club nearly equalised, but Mohamed El-Shennawy brilliantly saved the ball.

In the 78th minute, substitute Karim Nedved won a penalty after he was brought down by the goalkeeper, and Ali Maaloul stepped up and made it 2-0, scoring for the second game in a row.

Huddersfield loanee Ramadan Sobhi missed two huge chances in the dying minutes, as Al Ahly secured a much-needed 2-0 victory.
