Gross reveals why Obama and Fathi did not start against Ittihad Tanger


Zamalek‘s head coach, , commented on why he did not start Youssef Obama and the absence of Mostafa Fathi against .

The White Knights held a 0-0 draw with Morocco’s  in first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup play-off round at Stade Ibn Batouta.

In the post-match conference, the Swiss coach stated, “Obama and Fathi suffered from minor injuries, therefore, I did not want to start them against Ittihad Tanga.”

He added, “It was a tough clash but we tried to maintain our tactics and plan throughout the match. We defended really well and we played on the counter attacks.”

On whether he is planning to change his plan in the second leg back in Cairo, Gross said, “We will definitely play differently in the second leg and depend on a more offensive plan.”

Zamalek is set to face Ittihad Tanger on Friday January 18th. The winner is set to qualify to the CAF Confederations Cup group stage.
