Ismaily legend and former international has announced he has retired from football, and thanked Ismaily and fans for supporting him throughout his career.

Abd Rabo spent the 17 years of his career at Ismaily, coming up from the club’s youth sector. He made over 250 appearances for the Yellow Dragons, scoring 68 goals.

During his stay at Ismaily, the veteran midfielder had few loan spells in France and Saudi Arabia, playing for French side RC Strasbourg Alsace, Al Ahli Dubai Club, Ittihad Jeddah, and Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia.

“I thank Ismaily fans on their support throughout my career. It’s a very tough decision and it’s hard to take, but now I announce hanging my boots. And I thank all Egypt fans who support me,” Abd Rabo said on Facebook.

“I took my decision last season and I was supposed to announce it last summer. But I decided to retract my decision for the tough situation the club was going through.

“Last season I delivered very good performances made me close to a return to Egypt, and I could have retired in better circumstances.

“Choosing the right time was very important. Ismaily is a big club and I endured massive pressure in the last period for it.”

“I wished to achieve a title for you [fans] and for myself. But the faithfulness and affection I received are among the best things I live with,” he added.
