Garth Crooks: Salah is messing with his reputation
Mohamed Salah scored a brace in Liverpool’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Crystal Palace securing his side to the top of the table spot.
The Egyptian player was criticised again for diving when he went to ground in the first half in a challenge with defender Mamadou Sakho.
“It’s pathetic,” Crooks told BBC Sport. “By the way, why doesn’t Klopp say ‘just play the game?’
“People are going to tackle you in the box but don’t try and kid everybody because what you’re doing is just messing with your credibility. He’s messing with his reputation.”
The 26-year-old and his teammates were awarded four penalties in their last four Premier League matches, with Salah winning three of them. Because of that, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp defended the star after accusations of simulation following the team’s victory over Arsenal.
First accusations came after Liverpool’s victory over Newcastle on Boxing Day, with former Premier League referee Mark Halsey claiming that Salah should receive a two-game ban and Burnley boss Sean Dyche slamming the English FA for not banning him.
“Very soon, not just the professionals are going to say it’s cheating but the supporters too,” Crooks added.
