Zamalek defeat Tanger, proceed to Confederations Cup group stages
Zamalek managed to advance to the CAF Confederations Cup group stages after defeating Morrocan side Ittihad of Tanger 3-1.
After the 0-0 draw in Morocco, five-time Champions League winners Zamalek were eager to secure a victory at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium that would take them to the group stages.
The White Knights started the match with caution but were able to quickly dominate the ball. Omar El-Said announced Zamalek’s ambitions earlier in the 3rd minute of the game with a shot that Tanger goalie managed to stop.
Tanger players however did not just hand over possession to the hosts and used Zamalek’s rush to their advantage launching counterattacks. The Morrocan side started their attacks in the 15th minute but failed to convert their first efforts to an opener.
Four minutes later, forward Mehdi Naghmi took a perfect pass from midfielder Abdelkabir El Ouadi and sent a dangerous shot that goalie Mahmoud Gennesh brilliantly blocked.
One minute before the first half ended, Kahraba used his skills coming from the left side to send a cross to Ibrahim Hassan who successfully controlled his ball and converted the cross to Zamalek’s first goal.
A few minutes later Ferjani Sassi almost doubled the score for his side with a header but Tanger goalkeeper stopped Sassi’s efforts.
As the second half started Zamalek were eager to score another goal to secure their lead but Tanger defence stood their ground and made it harder for the Egyptians.

Tanger exerted all their efforts to snatch another equaliser that would save their qualification hopes, but Youssef Obama ended Tanger’s dreams scoring the third for Zamalek in the 84th minute with a marvelous goal after he perfectly used his skills to dodge the Moroccan defenders.
