Al Masry complete signing of ex-Barcelona B winger
Egyptian side Al Masry have completed the signing of former Barcelona B winger Ezekiel Bassey on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Al Masry wanted to strengthen their squad after the departure of Egypt international Ahmed Gomaa to Saudi side Ohod Club on loan.
Bassey joins the Port-Said based club from Nigerian side Akwa United after just six months with them, and has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until July 2022.
The 22-year-old becomes Al Masry’s fourth winter arrival after deals for Hussein Ragab, Saidou Simpore, and Mostafa Faramawy.
The left winger has played for a number of Nigerian clubs before, including Lobi Stars, Akwa United, and Enyimba, as well as Iranian side Paykan FC.
He also had a short stint at the Barcelona B team, whom he joined in January 2017 on loan from Enyimba, before returning back as he failed to secure a permanent deal.
On the international level, Bassey has represented the Nigerian national team once, featuring against Swaziland in November 2015 in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Bassey will occupy Al Masry’s final foreign player slot after Mohamed Koffi, Emeka Eze, and new signing Saidou Simpore.
Al Masry are having a disappointing season as they currently sit 14th in the Egyptian Premier League, only away from the relegation zone on goal difference.
