Zamalek handed kind draw in 2019 CAF Confederation Cup


Zamalek have been drawn in a balanced group in the following their 3-1 aggregate win over Morocco’s Ittihad Tanger.

The Whites have beaten AS CotonTchad and Ittihad Tanger to reach the group-stages of the competition for the first time in four years.

They have been placed in group D alongside Algeria’s NA Hussein Dey, Petro de Luanda of Angola, Kenyan giants Gor Mahia.

Zamalek will start their campaign with a trip to Kenya to face Gor Mahia on February 3, before hosting the Algerian side at home 10 days later.

The Cairo giants will hope to lift their first continental title since 2002, and to become the only second Egyptian club to win the Confederation Cup after Al Ahly, who won it in 2014.

Meanwhile, group A have witnessed the participation of three Moroccan teams, title holders Raja Casablanca, Hassania Agadir, and RS Berkane, as well as DR Congo’s AS Otôho.

A Tunisian derby between Étoile du Sahel and CS Sfaxien will take place in group B after they were drawn alongside each other. Nigerian side Enugu Rangers and Salitas of Burkina Faso are the other two teams in the group.

Another derby will take in the group-stages, as Zambia’s ZESCO United and Nkana were drawn in group C alongside Al Hilal of Sudan and Ghana’s Asante Kotoko.
