Pyramids complete signing of Peru international Cristian Benavente
The 24-year-old joins Pyramids one day after the arrival of 2017 Asian Player of the Year Omar Khribin from Saudi club Al Hilal.
Benavente came through the Real Madrid Academy, playing for the U17 and U19 teams, before being promoted to the Castilla team in 2013.
He made 33 appearances for Real Madrid Castilla in the second and third tiers of Spanish football, before being released on a free transfer after just two years.
Then-Championship side MK Dons acquired his signing in the summer of 2015, but Benavente struggled for game time there, as he played only five games, including three in the league cup.
This forced the player to leave the English club after just six months to join Belgian Pro League outfit RSC Charleroi, and since then he has become a key player for the Charleroi-based club.
Benavente went on to make over 100 appearances for Charleroi, scoring 29 goals while providing 10 assists, helping them qualify for the championship playoffs in the last two seasons.
This season, the Peruvian scored 10 goals and assisted three in 24 games as his former side currently sit seventh on the league table.
On the international level, Cristian Benavente has represented the Peru national team 18 times, scoring twice and was part of the team that reached the quarter-finals of the 2016 Copa America.
Benavente could make his debut for Pyramids when they face Zamalek in a top of the table clash on Thursday, January 25.
