Gent’s Ahmed Mostafa joins Smouha on loan for rest of season
Smouha have brought in Egypt U-23 winger Ahmed Mostafa on loan from Belgian side K.A.A. Gent for the rest of the season.
The 21-year-old has joined Gent last summer from Petrojet for a fee around $550,000, but struggled for game time, featuring just eight minutes with the first-team.
Ahmed Mostafa, who is a regular member of the Egypt U-23 national team, made his debut for Gent as a late second-half substitute against Cercle Brugge back in September, but failed to make the squad again.
Prior to his move to Belgium, Mostafa spent last season on loan at El-Dakhelya, scoring three goals and assisting further two in 30 games, as he helped the club survive relegation.
Despite graduating from Petrojet’s youth academy, Mostafa has made only five appearances for the Petroleum club during the 2016/2017 season, before joining Gent last summer.
After only six months in Belgium, Gent has decided to send Mostafa out on loan to Smouha in order for him get some valuable match experience.
He becomes Smouha’s eighth winter signing after Al Ahly loanees Amr Barakat and Karim Yehia, Mohamed Fathi, Eddy Emomo, Ahmed Sobhi, Cheikh Bamba, Ibrahim Adel, and Bassem Morsi, who joined on loan from Zamalek.
Smouha are having a disappointing season as they find themselves eighth on the league table, having not won a league game since their 1-0 victory over Wadi Degla on October 7.
They will hope to return back to winning ways when they face Tala’ea El Geish in the league on Sunday, February 3.
