EFA vice president has revealed that the CAF have decided to postpone the kick-off of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The CAF have announced earlier that Egypt will host the after Cameroon were stripped of their hosting rights as they failed to fulfil the necessary organizational requirements.

The Pharaohs’ bid prevailed over South Africa’s one, and the tournament was initially scheduled to start on the 14th of June, with the draw set for April 12 in Cairo.

However, according to Shobier, the kick-off date will be moved to June 21 as per the request of the North African countries, who wanted to delay it due to the holy month of Ramadan.

“The North African countries have requested to delay the tournament by one week to accommodate Ramadan,” Shobier said on his TV show on ON Sport.

“The CAF have accepted their request and the tournament will start on June 21,” he added.

This will be the fifth time Egypt will be hosting the AFCON after 1959, 1974, 1986 and 2006, with the Pharaohs winning three of the four versions.
