Egypt’s Karim Hafez joins Kasimpasa on loan until end of season
The 22-year-old had been due to spend the whole 2018/2019 season on loan at Başakşehir, but he decided to terminate his contract with them due to lack of playing time.
He had joined the Turkish league leaders last summer on a one-year loan from Wadi Degla, with the club having an option to make the transfer permanent.
However, he struggled for game time at the Turkish club, playing just four games, with all of them coming in the Turkish Cup.
As a result, Hafez has agreed to join Kasimpasa on a six-month loan deal, to link up with compatriot Mahmoud Trezeguet, who is considered one of the club’s key men.
Hafez becomes Kasimpasa’s sixth winter signing after deals for Haris Hajradinovic, Simone Scuffet, Tobias Heintz, Azad Toptik, and Stipe Perica.
He will battle with Özgür Cek, Olivier Veigneau, and Cagtay Kurukalip for a starting spot, and could make his debut when Kasimpasa they host Sivasspor on Saturday.
Hafez, who has seven caps to his name, was left out of the Egypt World Cup squad by Hector Cuper and also failed to make any of Javier Aguirre’s squads for the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.
He will hope that the loan spell helps him reclaim his place in the Pharaohs squad, ahead of the upcoming AFCON, which will take place next June in Egypt.
