Club Africain coach resigns following TP Mazembe humiliation

Tunisian giants Club African head coach announced his resignation following 8-0 record loss to in the .

Ellili took charge of on October 21 and in his 15 games in charge managed to win only seven, lost seven and drew one.

“My resignation is out of respect for the club’s fans, I take a big part of the blame for Saturday’s heavy loss,” he told Mosaique FM radio station.

“The loss of yesterday is, for me, an accident of course because the team is on the right track”

“Too bad for the players, who have given everything for months, to lose in this way.

“On a personal level, I think this is the worst moment of my career. I’m a fighter and a winner and I really did not want to live this nightmare.”

The 55-year-old coached 13 teams throughout his 18-year managerial career including Etoile du Sahel, CS Sfaxien and Tunisia U-20 side.

Club Africain are currently bottom of their CAF Champions League group. This group has now been reduced to three teams following the elimination of Egypt’s Ismaily SC.

The Tunis-based club are also struggling in the 14-team Tunisian League as they sit seventh with just 17 points in 13 games.
