Ismaily: We hope to return to the Champions League
Ismaily legal advisor Nahed Hagag said that he’s hopeful that his side will return to the CAF Champions League following their elimination.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had officially announced that Ismaily have been excluded from the 2019 Champions League edition. After fans riot that occurred at the end of their group stage fixture against Tunisia’s Club Africain Ismailia.
Following this decision Ismaily had released a statement in the name of their fans asking the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to overrule their decision.
CAF accepted a hearing to see if an overruling of the decision could take place.
“I have hope that we’ll return to the tournament [Champions League],” he told ONSport TV channel.
“We filed the grievance and we expected it to be rejected. But we found the CAF inviting us to a hearing, we’re optimistic.
“We prepared more than one file, evidence or video, including Club Africain’s endorsement stating that no one got hurt. And also past evidence when supporters enter the field during the Zamalek vs Club African in 2011. Zamalek weren’t eliminated yet.
“The punishment that we received was based on two articles. The first talks about assaulting the visitor team and the second one is about pitch invasion, this never happened.
“We made a mistake for sure, but the punishment is wrong for sure.”
