OFFICIAL: Ismaily returns to CAF Champions League


has officially overruled Ismaily‘s suspension from the 2019 CAF Champions League due to fans’ riots against Tunisian side, Club African at Ismailia.

According to the competition regulations, El Daraweesh were eliminated from the tournament due to the riots caused by fans, who according to the match officials, “have been continuously throwing stones and water bottles on the assistant referee and the visiting team specifically on the 86th minute while Club Africain’s team was attempting to take a corner kick.”

Cameroonian referee, Sidi Alioum, had to stop the game between Ismaily and Club Africain multiple times, before suspending the game in the 88th minute.

Instead of the suspension, CAF is set to impose severe fines on Ismaily, who must play two fixtures of the group stage in one week in order to remain on schedule with all the teams.

Ismaily are currently at the bottom of their group with no points from six possible. The Yellow Castle are scheduled to face CS Constantine in their upcoming in the game in the competition. The date for the game is yet to be decided.
