Dwight Gayle hails Ahmed Hegazi after Stoke City assist
Ahmed Hegazi has drawn the praise of teammate Dwight Gayle after his moment of magic against Stoke City, which earned the Baggies a much-needed victory.
Stoke City hosted the Baggies on Saturday, with the latter needing nothing less than three points to close the gap on Leeds United and Norwich City, who sit top of the table.
The only goal of the game came after 25 minutes from the start, when Stefan Johansen’s free-kick was first-time volleyed by Ahmed Hegazi across the goal for Dwight Gayle to nod home from inside the box.
“It was almost the perfect free-kick. We worked on it in training during the week and it worked perfectly,” Gayle said.
“The touch from Ahmed is sensational, especially from a centre-half.
“He showed some great technique on what is his weaker foot and I’m grateful for it,” he added.
This marked Hegazi’s second assist in the Championship, with the first one coming in his side’s 4-3 win over Norwich City back in August.
Following the win, West Brom are currently fourth in the Championship with 53 points, only four away from the automatic promotion places.
Their next game will take place on Tuesday, February 12 when they host ninth-placed Nottingham Forest at the Hawthorns.
