Minister of Youth and Sports: The Egyptian Premier League is untouchable
The Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy has refuted allegations that the 2018/2019 Egyptian Premier League might be abolished due to Egypt’s hosting of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in June.
Smouha SC president Farag Amer claimed on Monday that he held talks with the Egyptian Sports Minister, where the former allegedly told him that the Egyptian League might get cancelled.
However, the minister said that the authorities in the country have not changed their stance about proceeding with the league competition despite winning the honour of hosting AFCON 2019.
“The management of the league competition concerns the Egyptian Football Association. Our stance is clear, the Egyptian Premier League is untouchable,” Sobhy told ON Sport radio station.
“We won’t postpone any competition because of hosting AFCON. Our position remains the same and hasn’t changed, I didn’t speak talk with anyone personally regarding the matter.”
