Odion Ighalo joins Shanghai Shenhua from Changchun Yatai
Ighalo leaves Changchun Yatai following their relegation last season, finishing below Chongqing Dangdai Lifan and Tianjin Teda on head to head records in a closely fought battle.
After spending most of the early part of this decade rotating between the different Pozzo family owned clubs, Ighalo rose to prominence in the 2015-16 season with Watford where he enjoyed some superb goalscoring form, bagging 15 goals and only being outscored by six different players.
Ighalo’s new club, Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, are well known among African football fans since their signed Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba after he won Chelsea the 2012 UEFA Champions League. Currently they have more of a South American contingent, boasting the likes of Fredy Guarin, Giovanni Moreno and Oscar Romero in their ranks.
The 29 year old looks set to make his debut in his club’s first game of the new Chinese Super League season in a local derby against Shanghai East Asia on Friday March 1st at 1:35PM Egyptian time.
