Nothing is impossible, says Bazouka following Al Hilal first-leg defeat
The Alexandria-based club suffered a heavy 3-0 away defeat to Saudi side Al Hilal in the first-leg of the Arab Championship quarter-finals.
Carlos Eduardo opened the scoring for Al Hilal after 14 minutes, before Bafétimbi Gomis scored a brace to help the Saudi giants put one foot in the semi-finals.
The result means that Ittihad have an almost impossible mission when they host the Saudi side in Alexandria on February 25, as they need to win by a four-goal margin to reach the semis.
“Nothing is impossible in football, we will play for the win in Alexandria,” Mohamed Bazouka said.
“Of course the return-leg in Alexandria will be very difficult game against a tough side, but we haven’t lost hope yet.”
A few minutes after Eduardo’s opener, former Liverpool youngster Toni Silva had a huge chance to equalise for Ittihad, when Manga put him through on goal, but the Bissau-Guinean international couldn’t beat Abdullah Al-Mayouf.
Like his manager, Bazouka believes the chance had a huge impact on the game, saying: “The missed one-on-one chance was the turning point of the game, we hope luck will be on our side in the return-leg.”
Ittihad are the only remaining Egyptian club in the competition following the elimination of Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek in the round of 16
