Al Ahly reduce gap with Zamalek, Pyramids with win over Dakhleya
Pyramids had suffered a 2-1 defeat to El Gouna in Hurghada on Tuesday, before Zamalek threw away a two-goal lead against Tala’a El-Gaish with former player Ahmed Samir scoring twice to earn a point for the hosts.
Al Ahly started the game strongly and were close to the goal in the fourth minute after Mohamed Hany ran down the right flank before playing a low cross towards Ajayi who was beat by Dakhleya defender to the ball.
In the 20th minute, Al Ahly opened the scoring after Hany sprinted once again, this time towards goal, before playing a one-two with Amr El-Sulaya who put him through before the right back to sent the ball past Mohamed Sobhy.
18 minutes later Geraldo da Costa received a pass from Hussein El-Shahat and managed to go through two of Dakhleya defenders in a brilliant fashion to set himself in front of goal but his finish was off target.
The Red Devils added the second after Ali Maaloul sent a precise low cross to Ajayi who turned his man inside out before slotting the ball in the back of the net.
In the second half Al Ahly’s rhythm have reduced a bit and Dakhleya had more of the ball possession, however the real big chance came for Al Ahly through Hussein El-Shahat who received the ball inside the box and feinted two defenders but his left-footed shot went straight at El-Shennawy.
Kevin Muhire earned Dakhleya a penalty in the 71st minute after he was tripped by Ayman Ashraf, it was then converted by Ahmed Ouka to bring Dakhleya back in the encounter.
But nevertheless, Al Ahly managed to put the tie to bed after Karim Nedved sent a smart through pass to El-Shahat on the right who by his turn laid the ball off to Geraldo in front of the open net for the Angolan to score his first goal and the third for Al Ahly in the 89th minute.
Al Ahly are now joint second with Pyramids with 45 points after 20 games played and reduced the point difference with leaders Zamalek to seven points.
