Constantine boss Denis Lavagne blames pitch for draw, praises Ismaily
CS Constantine manager Denis Lavagne has balmed Borg El-Arab’s poor pitch condition for his side’s performance against Ismaily on Saturday.
Ismaily hosted Algeria’s CS Constantine at Borg El-Arab, and despite Benson Shilongo putting the hosts 1-0 up with 20 minutes to go, they still failed to pick up their first win, conceding a last-minute own goal.
Following the result, the Algerian side are on verge of reaching the quarter-finals as they currently need just one point from their upcoming three games to qualify from their group.
On the other hand, Ismaily’s chances of qualifying look bleak as they currently sit bottom of the group with only one point, meaning that they must win their remaining three games to have any chance of making it past the group-stages.
CS Constantine boss Denis Lavagne has revealed his delight with the result, but still believes the pitch condition has affected his players’ performance.
“The pitch condition has affected both teams, it was the reason behind the poor display,” Lavagne said.
“We are satisfied with the result against Ismaily, as it gets us closer to the quarter-finals.
“Ismaily are a strong side, it was very difficult for us to score against them,” the Frenchman added.
Ismaily will travel to Algeria to face CS Constantine once again next week, with the Egyptian side needing to win their remaining three games to have any chance of qualifying from their group.
