Mahmoud Alaa returns as Zamalek name squad for Petro Luanda clash

Zamalek boss Christian Gross has named his 22-man squad that will face Angola’s  in the group-stages.

Zamalek will host Petro de Luanda at Borg El-Arab on Sunday in a must-win game after the Whites picked up only one point from their opening two games.

The Egyptian side suffered a 4-2 away defeat to Gor Mahia in their first game, before conceding a last-minute equaliser against Algeria’s NA Hussein Dey at home.

To make matters worse, Zamalek have also suffered a surprise 2-2 draw to El-Gaish in their last encounter in the league before their clash with Petro de Luanda.

Zamalek have been handed a major injury boost ahead of the game, as their top scorer has been included in the squad despite reports indicating he might miss the game through injury.

Ahmed Madbouli, Ayman Hefny, Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, and Hamid Ahdaad have also made the squad. However, Mohamed Ibrahim was left out by Christian Gross for tactical reasons.

Mohamed Antar and team captain Hazem Emam were also omitted from the squad due to injuries.

Zamalek squad:

Goalkeepers: Mahmoud Abdel Rahim Gennesh, Emad El Sayed, Omar Salah.

Defenders: Mahmoud Alaa, Mohamed Abdel-Salam, Mohamed Abdel Ghany, Bahaa Magdy, Abdallah Gomaa, Mahmoud Hamdi, Hamdi Nagguez.

Midfielders: Ferjani Sassi, Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Ibrahim Hassan, Youssef Obama, Ayman Hefny, Tarek Hamed, Mahmoud Kahraba, Ahmed Sayed Zizo, Ahmed Madbouli.

Forwards: Omar El-Said, Hamed Ahdad, Khalid Boutaib.
