Smouha appoint Hassan twins as new head coach, director of football
Smouha have confirmed the appointment of Hossam Hassan as their new head coach, with his twin brother Ibrahim being named as director of football.
Hassan replaces Adel Abdelrahman, who was sacked after only four games in charge of Smouha, in which he drew two while losing the other two.
Abdelrahman started his new job with two successive 0-0 draws with ENPPI and El-Gaish, before suffering a big 4-0 defeat to Pyramids FC followed by a 2-1 home loss to Arab Contractors.
On the other hand, Hassan has been without a job for a quite short time as he was sacked as Pyramids FC manager last month following a 3-3 draw with Zamalek.
The legendary forward has been linked with a return to Ittihad of Alexandria, but Smouha chairman Farag Amer managed to sign him, becoming the club’s fourth head coach this season.
The Alexandria-based club are having a disappointing season, having not won any game across all competitions since their 3-2 victory over second-division side Aluminium in the first round of Egypt Cup on October 11.
Since then, they have drawn nine games, while losing six, including a penalty shootout defeat to arch-rivals Ittihad of Alexandria in the round of 16 of the Egypt Cup.
Smouha will now look to turn their fortunes around under Hossam Hassan’s management, whose first game in charge of the club will be against Ismaily on March 12.
Hassan is one of the most experienced head coaches in Egypt, having taken charge of Al Masry, Etisalat, Zamalek, Ismaily, Misr El-Makasa, Ittihad of Alexandria, and Pyramids, as well as the Jordan national team.
However, he has failed to win any trophy during his managerial career, losing the 2017 Egypt Cup and Super Cup finals to Al Ahly during his stint as Al Masry boss.
