Ittihad settle for fruitless draw to exit Arab Championship
Ittihad were reduced to a tough 3-0 defeat in the first leg in Riyad, KSA to receive a big blow to their chances of going through to replicate another heroic display after knocking out Esperance and Zamalek.
The hosts managed to hold possession in the early beginning of the game but without posing any threat on Al Hilal, who came up with the first chance of the game when Salem Al-Dawsari sent a low drive towards the near post that was saved by El-Hani Soliman.
Ittihad wasted a glorious opportunity in the 11th minute when Toni Da Silva escaped on the right flank and squared the ball to Khaled El-Ghandour who take a first time curler that went over the bar.
The first half remained in the same patter with Ittihad holding the most of ball possession but without looking dangerous for the half to end with a goalless draw.
The second half saw more of the same display with Ittihad making shy attempts on goal while Al Hilal tried to keep the result the way it was without spending much energy.
In the 72nd minute Nour El-Sayed blasted a scorcher towards goal but Abdullah Al-Mayouf parried it away amazingly.
