VIDEO: Ahmed Elmohamady assists as Aston Villa beat Derby County
Aston Villa hosted Derby County at the Villa Park, hoping to end their five-game winless run as their victory came on the 26th of January against Ipswich Town.
Ahmed Elmohamady started at right-back for the third game in a row, with Tommy Elphick, Tyrone Mings, and Kortney Hause completing Villa’s four-man defence.
The hosts completely dominated the early minutes of the game, and needed just nine minutes to open the scoreline as Tammy Abraham’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper, before Conor Hourihane slotted home the rebound.
In the 37th minute, Tammy Abraham doubled his side’s lead, converting Ahmed Elmohamady’s fine cross to score his 21st league goal of the season.
The assist is the Egyptian’s fifth in the Championship this season in 27 games and his 25th in the competition since his first game for Hull City in 2012.
Before the end of the first-half, Conor Hourihane managed to grab another goal, and two minutes later Jack Grealish marked his return from injury with a spectacular volley, securing a big win for Aston Villa.
Following the victory, Aston Villa are currently 11th in the EFL Championship with 48 points, six away from the playoffs, and their next game will be against their arch-rivals Birmingham City away from home.
