Mohamed Elneny left out of squad for Stade Rennais trip
The Gunners knocked out Belarusian side BATE Borisov 3-1 on aggregate in the round of 32, before being drawn against Stade Rennais of France, with the first-leg taking place away from home.
Despite starting five of the six group-games of the competition, Mohamed Elneny failed to feature in both legs against BATE, remaining on the bench for the full 90 minutes during the first-leg, and failed to make the cut for the return-leg at the Emirates.
He will now also miss his side’s first-leg clash with Stade Rennais after being left out by Unai Emery as the Spanish coach named the squad on Wednesday.
The Egyptian has made only 11 appearances for Arsenal this season, including four in the Premier League, which prompted talk of a possible departure next summer.
Arsenal will also be without the suspended Alexandre Lacazette for both legs of this encounter, as well as Carl Jenkinson and Stephan Lichtsteiner, who like Elneny were left out for tactical reasons.
On the other hand, Arsenal’s big guns Aubameyang, Ozil, Ramsey, Mkhitaryan, Sokratis, Torreira, Guendouzi, Xhaka, and Kolasniac have all made the travelling squad.
New signing Denis Suarez, who arrived on loan from Barcelona, was also included as well as youngsters Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Eddie Nketiah.
