EgyPL trio called up to Tanzania squad for AFCON qualifier

EgyPL trio called up to Tanzania squad for Uganda AFCON qualifier

Egyptian Premier League trio , Himid Mao, and  have been named in the Tanzanian national team squad for the March internationals.

Tanzania have a crucial game in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers against Uganda, and they have to win and hope that other results conspire in their favour to have any chance of reaching the final tournament in Egypt.

They are currently third in group L with five points, eight behind leaders Uganda, who have already qualified, and equal on points with second-placed Lesotho, however, the latter are ahead due to their head-to-head record against each other.

This means that in order for the Taifa Stars to qualify for the 2019 AFCON, Tanzania must beat Uganda at home, and fourth-placed Cape Verde force Lesotho to drop points in Praia.

And for the decisive game, Tanzania head coach Emmanuel Amunike has decided to call-up three Egyptian Premier League-based players, Yahya Zayd, Himid Mao, and Shiza Kichuya.

22-year-old Yahya Zayd plies his trade at Ismaily after joining them in the January transfer window from Azam FC, however, he played just 12 minutes for the Yellow Dragons during their 2-0 victory over Ittihad of Alexandria.

Shiza Kichuya is also a new arrival to the Egyptian Premier League, joining ENPPI in the January transfer window on loan from Pharco FC, and featured in three of their last four league games without scoring any goal.

Unlike Zayd and Kichuya, Mao has been a regular face for Petrojet this season, making 24 appearances for the Petroleum club, scoring three goals, including a brace against ENPPI in Egypt Cup quarter-finals.
