Martin Lasarte praises Vita Club, stresses importance of Saturday’s clash
Al Ahly boss Martin Lasarte has stressed the importance of securing the three points against AS Vita Club as the Congolese side host the Reds on Saturday.
The Cairo giants are currently top of their CAF Champions League group with seven points, one ahead of second-placed Simba, while JS Saoura and AS Vita Club sit third and fourth with five and four points respectively.
Lasarte’s men managed to beat the Congolese club 2-0 at home, thanks to strikes from Nasser Maher and Ali Maaloul and need only three points from their remaining two games in order to reach the quarter-finals.
“Tomorrow’s game has nothing to do with the outcome of the first-leg clash in Egypt,” Lasarte said in his pre-match press conference.
“The first game is in the past, and Al Ahly are always used to looking ahead, dealing with things step by step, and thinking about each game separately.
“Our aim against AS Vita Club to win and collect the three points in order to qualify for the quarter-finals.
“I know Vita Club very well. I know how strong they are at their ground and in front of their fans, but Al Ahly have the experience to deal with all the circumstances of the match.
“Vita Club are a very strong team who have excellent players. All we have to do is to win to write a new line in Al Ahly’s history,” he added.
Al Ahly’s last group game will take place at Borg El-Arab against Algeria’s JS Saoura, but if the Reds managed to clinch the three points in Congo, the game will be considered as a dead rubber.
