Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: How have Egyptians abroad fared this week?

KingFut rounds up the  action this week to keep you up to date with Egyptian players overseas.

Mohamed Abdel-Shafy – Al Ahli (Saudi Arabia)

March 8 – Saudi Pro League – Al Ahli have clinched a last-gasp win in the 23rd round of the Saudi Professional League against Al Qadisiyah in an intense encounter. Egypt international Mohamed Abdel-Shafy featured in the entire game after missing their ACL Champions League tie against Qatar’s Al Sadd. Bismark gave Al Qadisiyah the lead in the 31st minute, before Aderllan Santos levelled the score six minutes later. Al Ahli star Omar Al-Soma gifted his side the three points when he scored the winner in the 94th minute.

Ahmed Hossam Mido, Mohamed Awad – Al Wehda (Saudi Arabia)

March 8 – Saudi Pro League – Awad misses as Al Wahda secures a point away against Al Hilal in the 23rd round of Saudi Professional League. Carlos Eduardo scores first to put the hosts in front after 47 minutes, before Jaber Asiri scores in the 77th minute to seal the draw for Mido’s men. Al Wahda stays in the 6th position with 36 points before they host Al Nasr in the 24th round.

Sam Morsy – Wigan Atheltic (England)

March 9 – Championship – Wigan’s defensive midfielder Sam Morsy featured in his team’s disappointing 3-2 loss against Reading in the English Championship. Yakou Meite’s late goal secured the full points for the hosts in the 90th minute. After the loss, Wigan occupy the 20th league spot with 36 points ahead of their clash against Blackburn Rovers next week.

Ahmed Hegazi – West Brom (England)

March 9 – Championship – Ahmed Hegazi excluded as West Brom drew 1-1 against Ipswich Town in the 36th fixture of the Championship. Stefan Johansen took an early lead for the Baggies in the fourth minute. However, Jon Nolan levelled things up in the second half. The draw takes Hegazi’s side to the fourth position with 61 points and are set to face Swansea City on March 13.

Ahmed Elmohamdy– Aston Villa (England)

March 10 – Championship – Ahmed Elmohamady played the full 90 minutes as Aston Villa defeated Birmingham City 1-0 in the 36th Championship fixture, thanks to Jack Grealish second-half goal that snatched the full points for the Visitors. After the win, the Villans sit ninth with 51 points ahead of their encounter against Nottingham Forest next week.

Mahmoud Trezeguet – Kasimpasa (Turkey)

March 10 – Turkish Super League – Egypt international Mahmoud Trezeguet played the full 90 minutes and Karim Hafez played 81 minutes in Kasimpasa’s 0-0 draw with Goztepe. Following this result, Kasimpasa sit dropped to the 12th position in the Turkish League with 30 points. They have now failed to win any of their last nine games. Their next game is against bottom-placed Akhisar Belediyespor on March 16.

Aly Ghazal – Feirense (Portugal)

March 10 – Portuguese Primeira Liga – Ghazal features as Feirense suffers a home 2-1 defeat against FC Porto in the 25th round of the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Feirense took the lead after just four minutes through Porto’s defender Felipe who scored in his own net. However two first-half goals for the visitors through Danilo Pereira and Pepe in the 18th and 35th minute were enough to earn the leaders the three points of the game. Feirense are still occupying the bottom of the table with just 14 points from 25 games as they edge closer to relegation.

– Olympiacos (Greece)

March 10 –  Greek Super League – Kouka’s scoring run has stopped as Olympiacos defeated Aris 4-1 in the 24th round of the Greek Super League. The goals came through Giorgos Masouras, Daniel Podence (brace), and Miguel Guerero, while Nicolas Martinez scored Aris’ only goal of the game. Following the victory, Olympiacos are second on the league table with 57 points, seven behind leaders PAOK FC.

Sam Morsy – Wigan Atheltic (England)

March 13 – Championship – Wigan’s captain Sam Morsy played the full 90 minutes in Wigan’s disappointing 3-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers in the 37th fixture of the English Championship. Daniel Graham scored twice for the hosts, while, Bradley Dack scored the third in the 86th minute. After the loss, Wigan sit 20th with 36 points and are set to face Bolton Wanderers on the 16th of March.

Ahmed Elmohamdy– Aston Villa (England)

March 14 – Championship – Egypt’s Ahmed Elmohamady shines to help Aston Villa clinch 3-1 away victory against Nottingham Forest in the 37th round of the English Championship. Joe Colback quickly took the lead for Nottingham three minutes into the tie before John McGinn quickly made it 1-1 for the visitors four minutes later, and in the 15th minute, the same player turned the result around for Villa. Kortney Hause scored the third for his side in the 61st minute

Ahmed Hegazi – West Brom (England)

March 14 – Championship – Ahmed Hegazi returned in West Brom’s impressive 3-0 victory against Swansea City in the 37th fixture of the Championship. Chris Brunt broke the deadlock just 19 minutes into the game. Meanwhile, Mason Holgate and Jay Rodriguez secured the full points for the Baggies in the second half. After the win, Hegazi’s side remain fourth with 64 points and will face Brentford next week.

Mohamed Elneny – Arsenal (England)

March 14 – Europa League Mohamed Elneny excluded from the squad as Arsenal defeated Stade Rennais 3-0 (4-3 on aggregate) to secure a spot in the Europa League quarterfinals. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a brace and Ainsley Maitland-Niles found the back of the net once to secure an entertaining victory for the Gunners. Arsenal’s next game will be against Newcastle on the 1st of April in the English Premier League.
