Costacurta: I would struggle against Salah
AC Milan and Italy defensive legend Alessandro Costacurta has said he would struggle to defend against Salah if he played in this era.
Following Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Bayern Munich to progress to the UEFA Champions League quarter finals, Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has been the subject of praise from Italy legend Alessandro Costacurta.
While it was far from a vintage Salah performance, he did bag an assist to seal the tie and make it 3-1 which has led to Costacurta stating that even he would have struggled to deal with Salah.
The Italian said “I was a defender and I can tell you that if I had to play against a player like Salah I would run out of fuel after 45 minutes. He does so many sprints, it’s impressive”
Salah has proven his credentials in Serie A in his time at Roma and Fiorentina, however the praise is still impressive as Costacurta played in the golden era of Italian club football in the 1980s and 1990s. He also makes these statements as someone who was part of one of the best defences of all time alongside Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini.
Liverpool’s next game is a slightly more subdued tie away at struggling Fulham on Sunday 17th March at 4:15PM Egyptian time.
