Horoya AC sack manager Patrice Neveu just hours before CL draw
Al Ahly’s potential CAF Champions League quarter-final opponents Horoya AC have sacked their manager Patrice Neveu just hours before the draw.
The Guinean side qualified for the quarter-finals as group B runners-up following a crucial 2-1 victory over South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in the final round.
This becomes the only second time Horoya AC have reached the knockout rounds of the CAF Champions League, with the first one coming last season, when they lost to Al Ahly 4-0 on aggregate.
Despite the big achievement, the club have decided to sack the French manager, without explaining any reasons for their decision.
“Yes it is effective, Horoya AC separates from Patrice Neveu, this Tuesday evening, after a meeting that took place at the club headquarters,” club’s secretary-general Kroutimi Mady Kaba said.
Patrice Neveu, who coached Egyptian sides Ismaily and Smouha before, has been replaced by another Frenchman, as the club announced the appointment of Didier Gomes Da Rosa as the club’s new head coach.
Da Rosa has plenty of experience in the African football, having managed the likes of Rwanda’s Rayon Sports, CotonSport of Cameroon, and Algerian sides CS Constantine and JSM Skikda.
The Guinean champions will find out who will they face in the CAF Champions quarter-finals on Wednesday evening and it will be one of Wydad Casablanca, TP Mazembe, or Al Ahly.
