Aswan beat Al Nasr, secure return to Egyptian Premier League
Aswan have been promoted to the Egyptian Premier League with two games to spare following their 2-1 victory over rivals Al Nasr Lel Taa’den.
Aswan needed to beat their neighbours to guarantee promotion back to the top flight, two seasons after getting relegated alongside them.
Both clubs were relegated in the 2016-2017 season, which saw Aswan collect 29 points from 34 games, only two away from the safe zone.
Second-half goals from Sylla and Mohamed El-Sabahy increased the gap between Aswan and second-placed Beni Suef to nine points with only two games to be played in group A, which ensured their return to the Premier League.
This will become Aswan’s 10th season in the top flight, with their best one coming in 1997, when they finished in ninth place.
Meanwhile, in group C, Tanta need only two points from their remaining two games to join Aswan in the Premier League, while group B leaders FC Masr are fighting with Ceramica Cleopatra, Tersana, and El-Qanah for the final promotion spot.
