HANDBALL: Zamalek beat Al Ahly, secure spot in Club World Cup

’s men’s handball team beat in a thrilling 38-35 game in the African Super Cup to qualify for the Club World Cup.

The Whites Knights earned their spot in the Super Cup after winning the 2018 Champions League. When they beat Al Ahly 27-25 in the final.

As for the Reds, they lifted the Cup Winners Cup after beating Lybia’s Al-Ittihad with a humiliating 25-12 scoreline in the final.

Despite the final score, the Red Devils came out on top in the first-half with a 13-11 score. Al Ahly were ahead of their rivals for most of the second-half. However, less than 30 seconds before the end of the game Zamalek legend Ahmed El-Ahmar scored the equalizer (27-27).

Both teams had to then play four periods of extra time. The first one ended in a 29-29 draw. Then the second-half ended once again in a draw (31-31).

Zamalek then came out on top in third extra time with a 35-32 score. The Whites then stayed on top until the rest of the game to secure the Super Cup title with a 38-35 score.

The six-time Super Cup winners will now participate in the 2019 in Saudi Arabia.
