VOLLEYBALL: Al Ahly lift African Clubs Championship Cup
This was Smouha’s first major continental final. As for the Red Devils were looking to win their third African Clubs Championship Cup in a row.
They didn’t disappoint as they went through the game without losing any of the sets. They won the first set 25-17. Then in the second-half, even though the Blues made it tougher for the now 14 time champions, they still managed to come out on top with a 25-23 score.
Finally Al Ahly came out on top once again in the third and final set 25-19.
This means that the Reds have eight titles above their closest rivals Tunisian side Club Sfaxien (6). Zamalek fall third with five titles.
Following this win Al Ahly legend Ahmed Saleh earned his seventh African Clubs Championship Cup, becoming more successful than all clubs in the continent besides Al Ahly.
The 34-year-old has had an illustrious career not only in Egypt but also in Europe. In 2010 he spent a year in Russia with Dynamo Yanter. He then played for Turkish sides Halibank Ankara and Galatasaray.
He managed to lift both the CEV Cup and the Turkish Volley Cup, before returning to Egypt in 2014 with Tala’a El-Geish where he won the 2016 African Clubs Championship Cup.
