You have to pray when you face players like Salah, says Materazzi
Italy legendary defender Marco Materazzi said that players have to pray when they face players such as Messi, Ronaldo, Salah or Mane.
The World Cup winner was asked during an interview whether he believes it is harder to defend against forwards nowadays than when he used to play.
“Maybe they’ve never seen how much Ronaldo ran. You know, Fenomeno. Very strong player technically,”
“But when you face players like Messi, Ronaldo [Cristiano], Salah or Mane, you have to pray and hope that you’ll be able to give 100% and they don’t. Because they have just too much quality and pace.
“I repeat, football is changing, Mbappe and Neymar, but players must adapt to it through training.
“You can’t say who was stronger – Pele or Messi, Maradona, Van Basten or Ronaldo Fenomeno.
“Everyone’s got an opinion, and it’s subjective. But to me the best player ever is Ronaldo Fenomeno, because I was lucky to train with him. And see what he could do even after serious injuries,”
“You watched hime on TV and he would make you fall in love with football,” he concluded.
Salah scored a stunning goal on Sunday as Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-0 at Anfield to return top of the Premier League table. Salah has now scored 19 goals in the Premier League and is currently the league top scorer alongside Man City’s Sergio Aguero.
