Zamalek midfielder Ferjani Sassi out for six weeks due to injury
Zamalek Tunisian midfielder Ferjani Sassi is set for a six-week stint on the sidelines with a foot injury, the Tunisian FF have announced.
The Whites have earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hassania Agadir in Suez Stadium on Sunday, which was enough to secure their spot in CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals.
However, Zamalek have received a huge blow during the game as Tunisian midfielder Ferjani Sassi limped out after 16 minutes only after sustaining an ankle injury.
Zamalek boss Gross has admitted that injury doesn’t look good, adding that he expects a lengthy absence for the Tunisian international.
And on Monday, it has been confirmed that Sassi will be out of action for six weeks, meaning he will miss a number of crucial games, including Ismaily, Pyramids FC, and the Confederation Cup semi-final.
Zamalek will play against the winner between Etoile du Sahel and Al Hilal in the semi-finals, with the first leg ending 3-1 for the Tunisian club in Sousse.
“Sassi suffers from a break in his heel and he needs a quick surgery,” read a statement by the Tunisian FF.
“The midfielder will be out of action for at least six weeks and he can train solo.
“We thank Zamalek’s management for allowing Sassi to undergo his recovery programme in Tunisia as we are working to make him ready for the 2019 African Cup of Nations,” they added.
Sassi has been Zamalek’s most consistent player this season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 20 Egyptian Premier League games.
