FTF: Ferjani Sassi out until 2019 AFCON
Ferjani Sassi limped out after 16 minutes during Zamalek’s 1-0 win over HUSA in the CAF Confederations Cup after sustaining an ankle injury.
The Federation of Tunisian Football (FTF) had already confirmed on Monday that the 27-year-old will be out for six weeks.
Now they confirmed that the former Metz man won’t take part in any game with Zamalek until the end of the season and might be just ready for the 2019 AFCON.
Sohail El-Shamly told Onsport radio station that Sassi will be out for a month and a half after coming out of a successful surgery.
El-Shamly then denied all rumors suggesting that Al Ahly left-back Ali Maaloul has suffered any muscle injuries.
Sassi has been crucial since joining the Whites Knights in July 2018 from Saudi side Al Nassr as he managed to score seven goals and provided three assists across all competitions.
He also helped them reach the Confederations Cup semifinals where they will face the winner between Etoile du Sahel and Sudan’s Al Hilal.
