Etoile du Sahel win Arab Club Championship against Al Hilal KSA

Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel have won the Arab Club Championship for the first time against Saudi powerhouse Al Hilal in the final.

The increasingly prestigious competition has once again been won by a Tunisian club, this time in the hands of Etoile du Sahel who surprisingly win the title for the first time.

In what was their first appearance in the final, Etoile faced off against Al Hilal who have won the competition twice but were in the final for the first time since 1994.

After being put into the lead through Karim Aribi midway through the first half, Al Hilal equalised through a Bafetimbi Gomis penalty half an hour later. The game appeared to be headed for a stalemate, however Mohammed Mothnani scored a dramatic winner in stoppage time against the run of play.

Etoile du Sahel truly earnt their win, beating the likes of Al Merrikh, Raja Casablanca and Ismaily en route to the final before beating Al Hilal in the United Arab Emirates.

Etoile will hope to build on the confidence gained from this tournament on the domestic scene as they hope to mount a late title challenge, which would be reliant on Esperance de Tunis slipping up.

On the continental stage, Etoile are on the verge of reaching the CAF Confederation Cup semi final where they would face Egyptian Premier League leaders Zamalek.
