FC Masr promoted to the Egyptian Premier League
Cairo based FC Masr have finally been promoted to the Egyptian Premier League for the first time since being formed in 2009.
Needing to at least equal the result of Ceramica Cleopatra on the final day to gain promotion, both FC Masr and their eventual runners up drew, which saw Masr enter the top flight from Group B of the Egyptian Second Division.
The promotion comes after five years in the second tier, having been promoted from the 4th tier in 2012-13 followed by another promotion the next season, winning the league title on both occasions.
Since joining the second tier in 2014, Masr have always been fairly close to making the next step having finished 4th twice and 2nd twice, moving from Group C to Group B midway through the process.
FC Masr join Aswan and Tanta who have already been promoted before the final day, and will hope to have continued success as they bring more top-flight football to the Cairo International Stadium.
