El-Khatib to hold meeting with players, staff following Pyramids defeat
Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib has confirmed that a meeting with the players and staff will take place this weekend regarding the club’s recent results.
With Al Ahly having as high standards as they do, the recent run of form has been unacceptable. The most notable was the 5-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League, which was recently followed by a 1-0 home loss to Pyramids in the league.
The result saw Al Ahly fall behind Pyramids in the league and provided an opportunity missed to overtake Zamalek in the title race.
As such, club president Mahmoud El Khatib has called a meeting this weekend to discuss recent results. A statement on the official club website said: “El Khatib’s meeting with the technical staff and the players is to discuss the results of the team during the recent period and the emphasis on the need to make the maximum effort to achieve the league championship and the joy of the fans of Ahly.”
It is believed that the future of coach Martin Lasarte is in the balance, as the situation at present would see Al Ahly fail to qualify for the 2019-20 CAF Champions League which would be an unimaginable low.
Al Ahly’s next game is against Al Masry at home on Thursday 25th April at 5 PM local time.
