Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock compares Salah to Olympic diver
Liverpool snatched a tough three points against Cardiff City in Wales to return top of the Premier League table, thanks to a strike from Georginio Wijnaldum and a James Milner penalty.
The penalty was awarded in the 75th minute after Mohamed Salah was held back by Cardiff defender Sean Morrison, but Warnock believes it was a soft call by referee Martin Atkinson.
The 70-year-old criticised Salah and compared him to Olympic diver Tom Daley, adding that his side should have been awarded a penalty minutes before Liverpool’s one.
“Once again, one or two things have gone against us, but I’m always like that, aren’t I?” Warnock told talkSPORT.
“There would be a lot of penalties in matches if you give things like that. It’s a soft penalty. At the end of the tugging, the theatrics of the dive were a solid 9.9. It’s a Tom Daley job, that.
“It’s not just the [Liverpool] penalty, I think we should’ve had a penalty after half-time.
“When you look at the way Robertson’s pulled his shirt, all of the television pundits say it’s a penalty by the letter of the law.
“But they get away with it. They say the sun might’ve been in the linesman’s eyes.”
Following the win, Liverpool return top with 88 points, two more than second-placed Man City, who still have a game in hand.
The Reds’ next game will be against already-relegated Huddersfield Town on Friday, April 26, while Man City will face arch-rivals Man United two days earlier.
