Mohamed Salah helps Liverpool return top after victory over Cardiff City
Egypt’s Mohamed Salah helped Liverpool return back to the top of the Premier League table following a 2-0 away victory against Cardiff City.
Salah started for the Reds alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane as Liverpool travelled to Wales to face 18th-placed Cardiff City in order to keep their Premier League title hopes alive.
Liverpool started brightly and had a couple of chances to break the deadlock in the first-half, and Salah nearly managed to do so in the 34th minute, but his effort from close range was tipped for a corner.
The Liverpool front three kept pushing for the opener, however, it was Georginio Wijnaldum, who put the Reds in front after converting Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner.
The hosts’ first real chance of the game came in the 64th minute through their defender Sean Morrison, but his mistimed header went wide.
In the 75th minute, Mohamed Salah won Liverpool a penalty after he was held back by Morrison. Jamer Milner stepped up and easily converted it to secure a huge victory for the Reds.
Following the win, Liverpool return top with 88 points, two more than second-placed Man City, who still have a game in hand.
The Reds’ next game will be against already-relegated Huddersfield Town on Friday, April 26, while Man City will face arch-rivals Man United two days earlier.
