Ali Gabr scores as Pyramids down Zamalek 1-0 to top the league table

Ali Gabr’s first half goal was enough to snatch an hard-fought 1-0 victory for against Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League.

Pyramids started on the front foot as former Zamalek player Ali Gabr broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, when he converted Abdallah El-Said’s in-swinging crossed corner kick past Mahmoud ‘Genesh’ with a powerful header.

Just five minutes later, Pyramids were awarded a penalty kick after Hamdi Nagguez suffled with Gabr inside the box. Syrian international Omar Khrbin failed to score from the spot as his Panenka attempt was saved by Genesh.

The Whites tried to level things up in the second half, but their attempts were denied by Pyramids backline until the referee blew the fulltime whistle.

The win takes Pyramids to the top of the table with 63 points ahead of their clash against Misr El-Makassa. Meanwhile, the White Knights moved to the second spot with 60 points and will face Entag El-Harby next week.
