The win took Pyramids to the top of the table with 63 points ahead of their clash against sixth-placed Misr El-Makassa. Meanwhile, the White Knights dropped to the second spot with 60 points and will face Entag El-Harby next week.

Pyramids boss Diaz talked about the win and their chances in the lifting the league title, saying: “It was a big game between two big teams. I want to thank my players, they were fighting in the pitch.

“We are enjoying our best form, we performed amazingly against a huge team. We made some mistakes that we will correct in the future.

“Khribin was unlucky in the penalty, he has a lot of experience in shooting penalties but he missed because of Zamalek’s goalkeeper intelligence and despite missing it he performed well.

“We still can win the league. We’re on top of the league and we’ll work hard to win all of our remaining games.”

Zamalek midfielder Ferjani Sassi missed his side’s game due to injury. Sassi has been a crucial player to the Whites this season.

“Zamalek have amazing players, not only Ferjani Sassi. But Pyramids players were more focused, because we were mentally prepared for the win especially after winning the previous game.

“I gift this leadership to Turki Al-Sheikh for believing in me. We will always have a tough challenge but I want to continue the journey until the very end,” he added.

Before the game, Pyramids midfielder ‘Dunga’ got the news that his father passed way but he played anyway.

“We were told about Dunga’s father death and it wasn’t something we were hoping for especially before such as game.”

“But Dunga himself insisted on playing the game and being with the team. I want to congratulate his family because they have a boy with a very strong personality who didn’t want to leave his teammates behind,” he concluded.
