Egypt U-23 to play two friendlies against Uzbekistan, Palestine


The EFA have confirmed that Egypt’s Olympic national team will play two friendlies against and next May.

The two friendlies come as part of the Young Pharaohs’ preparations for the U-23 African Cup of Nations, which will kick-off next November in Egypt.

In case they managed to finish in the top three places, they will qualify for the 2020 Olympics, which will take place by the end of July 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.

They played three friendlies in the March international break, starting with a 2-0 victory over Malawi in Cairo, before travelling to Spain to undergo a 10-day training camp.

Their first game in the camp saw them beat USA 2-0, thanks to strikes from Ahmed Yasser Rayan and Mohamed Sadek, and four days later they suffered a 1-0 loss against the Netherlands.

The Young Pharaohs will now face Uzbekistan and then Palestine in the upcoming international break, with their encounter against their neighbouring country taking place in Jerusalem on May 16.
