Gross talks about Etoile game, Gennesh’s replacement

boss Christian Gross said that he’s happy with his team’s defensive performance their 0-0 draw with in the semifinals.

The Whites managed to hold on to their 1-0 win in the first leg to secure a spot in the Confederation Cup final, where they’ll face Morocco’s RS Berkane.

Zamalek Swiss manager Christian Gross expressed his delight with his team’s performance during the game, despite the fact that the Tunisian outfit caused them a lot of trouble.

“The hardest moment against Etoile was when Gennesh got sent off and we had to play with Omar El-Said in goal,” Gross said.

“The beginning of both the first and second-halves were also very difficult, as they were constantly pressing and relied a lot on crosses.

“The game as a whole was a very difficult, but we reached our goal which was to qualify for the final of the Confederation Cup,” he added.

“We were very solid defensively. Our defenders played like lions against Etoile’s ferocious attack.

“We deserve to be in the final. We performed very well and Kahraba’s goal in the first game was very decisive and influential,”

Just before the end of the games Zamalek goalkeeper Gennesh got sent off for handling the ball outside of the penalty area. This means that second choice goalkeeper, Emad El-Sayed, will have to play the final against RS Berkane.

“I fully trust Emad El-Sayed to take Gennesh’s place. El-Sayed already participated in African competitions and I trust him,”

The White Knights will be travelling to RS Berkane in the first leg of the final on May 19 before hosting the second leg in Cairo a week later.
